Day 19 | Toys and Beats Morning Report — October 19, 2026
Good morning, creators. ☀️ Day 19 is here, and today we are looking at four signals worth watching — a lyrics giant buying the registry that tracks who owns what, a classic anime hero getting a worldwide licensing machine behind his reboot, new numbers showing licensed toys growing two and a half times faster than the whole toy market, and a Mafia Trap Cult single from our own family that pairs the Cult with Toymirth. Let's get into it.
1. Musixmatch Acquires Music Reports and Its Songdex Registry — Its First Acquisition in 16 Years
What happened: Announced today, October 19, Bologna-based Musixmatch has acquired Los Angeles-based Music Reports, Inc., the company behind the Songdex copyright registry — the first acquisition in Musixmatch's 16-year history, with financing from Tikehau Capital and financial terms undisclosed. London-based rights-matching platform Blokur, owned by Music Reports, comes with the deal, along with Music Reports' Cuetrak cue-sheet software. Musixmatch says the combination will build "the world's most comprehensive registry of music copyright information" and move the company from lyrics and music data into a full-stack rights and royalties platform spanning mechanical, sync, print and performance rights. Founder and CEO Max Ciociola put the mission plainly: "Every use of music identified, every owner known, every creator paid." (Source: Music Business Worldwide)
Why it matters: Musixmatch says it plainly in the announcement: when recordings cannot be matched to their underlying compositions and rightsholders, licenses may not be secured and royalty payments can be delayed or lost. Registration is not paperwork — it is the difference between getting paid and disappearing into the black box.
The ETS/Zillion angle: This is exactly why every Epic Toy Sound release gets registered work-by-work and recording-by-recording before the visualizers roll — clean ownership, clean metadata, royalties that can actually find their way home. It is the unglamorous machine underneath everything in our digital audio packs, and today's deal is the industry admitting the machine is the business.
2. Toon2Tango Takes Worldwide Licensing for Mediawan Kids & Family — Including the Astro Boy Reboot
What happened: Announced today, October 19, Toon2Tango and Mediawan Kids & Family have signed an exclusive worldwide licensing and merchandising agreement giving Toon2Tango responsibility for commercial partnerships across Mediawan's entire children's and family portfolio — toys, games, apparel, home and living, publishing, digital games and promotions. The combined slate is headlined by Method Animation's reboot of "Astro Boy," alongside digital-first series "Wadoo," preschool hit "Maddie + Triggs," Toon2Tango's own "Paluten Freedom" and "Niko," and the in-development action-adventure series "Eldrador," developed with German toy company Schleich. Toon2Tango CEO Hans Ulrich Stoef also flagged a direct-to-consumer push with the group's own fan merchandise platforms. The deal deepens a relationship that began with a distribution agreement in March 2025. (Source: PhoenixQ, reporting the Variety exclusive)
Why it matters: A beloved character only stays valuable if somebody works the licensing every day — new partners, new categories, new shelves. Astro Boy has meant something to fans since the 1950s; this deal is about turning that meaning into products a new generation can actually hold.
The ETS/Zillion angle: Characters plus community plus product, moving together — that is our lane too. Our toy photographers turn beloved figures into cover art and stories every single day; find the next star of your shelf in our action figures collection, and catch photographer features over at zillionmarketplace.com.
3. Global Licensing Hits $389.8 Billion — and Licensed Toys Are Growing 2.5× Faster Than the Toy Market
What happened: As Brand Licensing Europe opened at Excel London (October 6–8), event sponsor Licensing International reported global sales of licensed merchandise and services up 5.45% to $389.8 billion in 2025, with Character & Entertainment the largest property type at $161.8 billion and toys a $46.4 billion product category. New Circana data released alongside the show found licensed toys surging +20% year-to-date to August 2026 across the EU5 — two and a half times faster than total toy sales growth of +8% — with licensed products now 35% of all toy sales in those markets, movie properties up 10% led by Toy Story, and TV and streaming licensing up 15% with One Piece Live Action and KPop Demon Hunters driving sales while Pokémon stays the No. 1 toy property. Why it matters: The numbers say the quiet part out loud: fans do not just buy toys, they buy the stories attached to them. A figure tied to a character, a world and a soundtrack outsells a figure standing alone — and the gap is widening.
The ETS/Zillion angle: That story-attached model is literally what we build: every figure in our world can arrive with a sound, a cover and a community behind it. When a toy photographer's shot becomes a release cover, the toy and the track promote each other forever — browse the pairings in our digital audio packs and the action figures collection.
4. House Spotlight: "Good Fortune" — Mafia Trap Cult feat. Toymirth
What happened: Released July 16, 2026, "Good Fortune" is the Mafia Trap Cult single featuring Toymirth (UPC 882100205284, ISRC QT6F72669128) — cinematic mafia-trap from Ronnie's own group, the same family behind the 18-track album The Last Consigliere, which we spotlighted yesterday. Toymirth is no stranger around here: an ETS family collaborator who also leads "Time to Eat" with Epic Toy Sound and appears across the Mesmerized era of the catalog. "Good Fortune" is the bridge record between those worlds — the Cult's mandolins-and-menace sound with Toymirth riding alongside. (Source: Epic Toy Sound / Zillion Records catalog records)
Why it matters: Singles like this are how a house sound becomes a universe: one track at a time, each one carrying a collaborator's name into a new audience and pointing back to the full catalog.
The ETS/Zillion angle: "Good Fortune" sits in the same registered, license-ready catalog as this week's fresh drops — "Not Alone" feat. Skull Boy (download it here) and "Get Poppin" feat. KIDULT (download it here) — every track with its rights in order and a home at toysandbeats.com. One family, one catalog, everybody eats.
Thank you for starting your Monday with us — four signals, one community, and a catalog that keeps growing because creators and collectors like you keep showing up. Go make something beautiful today. One love. ✌️
